沈金云 Shen Jin Yun recently joined the Music Department as a visiting scholar for the 2018-2019 academic year, supported by the China Scholarship Council of the Ministry of Education to undertake a scholarly exchange on research and pedagogy in choral studies and conducting. Currently an associate professor in choral conducting at the School of Music, Nanjing Normal University in Nanjing, China, Jin Yun graduated from Nanjing Normal University with a specialization in music education (1993), received a Master’s degree in music education from Hyogo Normal University in Japan (2003), and a doctorate from the School of Literature at Osaka University, Japan (2010). As a choral director, Jin Yun serves as an executive director in the Choral Association of Nanjing City and Jiangsu Province, and conducts numerous choirs in the region, most notably, the Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation Chorus and the Jiangsu Drama School Women’s Choir. Jin Yun was invited as an adjudicator for the 2011 Grand Prix Competition in the Singapore International Choral Festival and has been awarded numerous accolades as a choir director in city and provincial choral competitions and festivals. In addition to her performance activities, Jin Yun’s scholarly research on choral music in China includes numerous journal articles, a concert DVD recording, and a monograph on The Development of Choral Music in Nanjing (Boya Cultural Press, 2013).
