Dave Riekenberg came to New York City in 1987 after two and a half years in the North Texas State University 1:00 Lab Band, and a three and a half year stint with Woody Herman and the Thundering Herd. While traveling with the Herd, Dave had the opportunity to perform as a featured soloist alongside  Dizzy Gillespie, Al Cohn, Nancy Wilson, Joe Williams, and Anita O'day, among others.Upon arriving in New York, Dave joined Blood, Sweat, and Tears, and toured with the group for roughly eight years. Dave is currently a member of the Dave Liebman Big Band, and has frequently performed with the groups led by Maria Schneider, Toshiko Akioshi, John Fedchock, John Beasley, John Tropea, Bill Warfield, and the Vanguard Orchestra, to name a few. In the small group field, Dave has recorded or concertized with Steve Gadd, Randy Brecker, Lou Marini, Walter Booker, Larry Willis, Junior Cook, Jimmy Cobb, Shorty Rogers, Bill Perkins, and They Might Be Giants, among others. Recent studio credits include playing on the soundtrack for Smash,  Death of a Bachelor by Panic at the Disco, Ocean’s 8, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, and My Crazy Ex Girlfriend. Dave has worked on Broadway as a full time member of the orchestras for Chicago, Hairspray, Nine to Five, and Priscilla Queen of the Desert and currently has a chair as a member of the orchestra for Beautiful, The Carole King Musical. He is also a member of the jazz faculty at Lehigh University.
