The Italian word partita means dance suite, and all of the pieces on this concert feature dances from across cultures, time, and place. Bach’s monumental Partita No. 2 in D Minor for Solo Violin turns 300 years old this year, and it features the famous Chaconne, which is one of the most important works for the violin.
Professor Unsu Kang, of Dankook University in Seoul, Korea, will discuss those of her compositions that inhabit both the Western classical and traditional Korean musical traditions. The colloquium will include violinist Diane Monroe in a performance of Professor Kang's solo violin piece, "Ari, Arari." ADMISSION FREE
