LU Philharmonic Concert: Russian Nights

The Lehigh University Philharmonic is excited to usher in their 2021-22 season on the Baker Hall stage with three Russian orchestral masterworks: the festive Procession of the Nobles Overture and colorful Capriccio Espagnole by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, as well as Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s stirring Symphony No. 5. LU Faculty String Quartet - Debut Concert

Join us for the debut concert of Lehigh University’s new Faculty String Quartet, which will feature Beethoven’s first string quartet, unsung African-American composer Florence Price’s striking second string quartet, and Gabriela Lena Frank’s scintillating Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout. Meghan Hynson, colloquium: "A Balinese "Call to Prayer": Sounding Religious Nationalism and Local Identity in the Puja Tri Sandhya"

In this presentation, Prof. Hynson examines the Puja Tri Sandhya, a Balinese Hindu prayer that has been broadcast into the soundscape of Bali since 2001. By charting the development of the prayer, she explores the religious politics of post-independence Indonesia, which called for the Balinese to adopt the Puja Tri Sandhya as a condition for religious legitimacy in the new nation.
